Your first print: from a file to the printer

Upload a model, put it in the queue, and let PrintSol send it to a printer that has the right filament loaded.

4 min read

This is the shortest path from a model on your disk to a print, without setting up products or a shop first.

1. Upload the file

Open File Manager and press Upload files, or drop files anywhere on the page. 3MF, STL, OBJ and STEP files are accepted, up to 60 MB each. PrintSol reads the size, volume and plates of the model and shows which of your printers it fits on.

2. Put it in the queue

Open the file and use the "Put in the queue" card on the right:

  • Filament type, for example PLA.
  • Colour, or "Colour: whatever is loaded" to use any spool of that type.
  • Printer, or "Printer: automatic" to let PrintSol choose.
  • Quantity, then press Queue it.

Behind the scenes PrintSol makes a small project named after the file and puts one task in the Print Queue (one per plate for a multi-plate 3MF).

3. Start it

On the Print Queue, the card shows which printer it will use. You have two options:

  • By hand: press Edit on the card, check the printer, and press Go.
  • Automatically: tick Auto-print at the top of the queue. Every minute PrintSol starts a ready task on an idle printer with a clear bed and the right filament loaded.

If there is no slice for that printer model yet, PrintSol slices the file first. That needs a slicer where PrintSol runs; see "How slicing works in PrintSol".

4. After the print

When the printer reports the print finished, the card moves to Finished. Take the print off, then press Confirm & cleaned: the task moves to Pack and the printer counts as clear for the next job.
