Clicker builder: fidget clickers with real MX switches

A name with one key per letter, symbols, a Key pad, a shape or your own logo, on MX switches hidden in the base: the colours fill themselves from your stock, and the switches go on the label and in the cost.

The Clicker builder is an add-on. Type a name (one key per letter, up to 12), or pick Symbols, a Key pad, a shape or your own logo; the live preview shows the clicker as it is used. Make the clicker puts the file in the Clickers folder, ready for the queue.

What it makes

  • A base in one piece that hides the switches: a well per key, at its floor a 1.5 mm plate with the 14 mm hole every Cherry MX footprint switch clips into, and a closed space under it for the switch's lower half and pins.
  • Each key fills its well with 0.6 mm all round: at rest it stands 4 mm out of the base, pressed all the way (the switch's 4 mm travel) its top is flush with the rim.
  • The base: one tray round all the keys (as a row, an arc or two rows, in an outline such as bubble, wave or heart) or a block per letter (Base, "A block per letter"; the blocks joined, with a bridge across a space). A shaped clicker (Make, "A shape") is one big shaped key in a cup of the same outline.
  • Key shape (names, symbols, Key pads, logos): square, round or hexagon. A round key is 24.5 mm across and a hexagon 23.7 mm across its flats (27.4 corner to corner), so the key still covers the whole switch; the wells, the tray, each block and the low cups follow the shape, and the letters fit the key.
  • Key height (names, Key pads, logos): high keys stand about 9 mm out of the base and still 4.9 mm when pressed; low keys sit in their own cups, 4 mm out and flush with the rim when pressed.
  • Border: the wall round each key, 1.6 mm (four lines of a 0.4 mm nozzle) up to 6 mm; the top edge can be rounded (0 to the border less 0.4 mm, 1 mm by default).
  • A key per letter or icon: a rounded square of at least 18 mm (a standard keycap, wider than the switch), flat on top, the letter or icon raised in its own colour, the MX cross socket underneath. A shape or logo too small to cover a switch is made bigger, and the page says so.
  • Keychain: a loop, a ring hole, a lanyard slot or none.

Symbols: 1 to 12 keys with a symbol on each, from a library of about 370 (animals, food, music, weather, sports, school, travel, games, tools and more; search by name or pick a category). Tap a key, then its symbol. Symbol size sets how much of the key's top the symbol fills (50 to 85 %, 70 by default); every line stays at least 0.8 mm, two lines of a 0.4 mm nozzle, at any size. Pick "A colour per key" under Colours for a key colour and a symbol colour on each key. The keys stand in a row, an arc, two rows or a grid, with everything a name has: high or low keys, the border and top edge, the low base, a tray or a block per key, flush or 3D symbols. The symbols are Lucide icons (ISC licence: free to use, prints may be sold).

Key pad: 2 to 12 plain keys in a grid that follows the count (4 keys 2 × 2, 6 keys 3 × 2, 9 keys 3 × 3, 12 keys 4 × 3; a short last row is centred). Pick "A colour per key" under Colours to give every key its own colour: each is matched to the closest PLA in stock, and a clicker uses at most as many filaments as your biggest AMS setup feeds (4, or 8 with two AMS); past that the closest colours share a filament. Orders for the themed sets and pastel pads PrintSol had before (animals, pet paws, sweet treats, bento, hearts and stars, pastel pads) still read and make. Logos: upload an SVG or a PNG (traced to an outline on the PrintSol server) and it goes on 1 to 4 keys. Only upload your own logo or one you may use: PrintSol does not print other people's brands or characters, and refuses names and files that are clearly one.

Colours

Every part has a colour zone (base, keys, second and third key colour, letters). Pick a style and a pattern (one colour, every other key, three colours in turn) or a filament per zone. Each colour snaps to the closest filament you have in stock, at most four (slots 1 to 4 of the AMS); the file has every part on its slot. When a colour is not in stock, the order says which filament is used instead.

Printing and putting it together

  • The base prints the right way up, the keys flat side down: nothing needs supports (the plate's narrow ledge over the space under it prints as a short bridge).
  • Push a switch down each well until it clicks into the plate (press on its housing with the back of a pen or a keycap puller; the well is just wide enough for it).
  • Low base (names, Key pads, logos; Clickers page): the base is 12 mm instead of 15.5. Snip each switch's two metal pins and its plastic centre post flush with the bottom of the switch first, with side cutters; a switch that is not snipped does not fit this base.
  • Push each key onto its switch: the letters read from the left when the keychain is on the left.
The stem socket is 4.3 by 1.35 mm (0.15 mm of play), the usual snug fit in PLA. If keys sit loose on your printer, make it tighter on the page (Stem fit); if they are hard to push on, looser.

Switches, keyrings and the cost

Chains: a clicker can come with a ball chain, a keyring with a clasp or a lanyard cord (the Chain choice, in the builder and in both shop plugins). A chain always gets a hole: a clicker without a keychain gets a loop (a slot for a cord). With no chain, a clicker with a keychain still takes the keyring, as before. Add each chain under Settings, Costs, Hardware & extras and pick it on the Clickers page: it goes on the work label, off the stock when packed and into the true cost (a clasp without its own item counts as the keyring). Orders from before the choice take the keyring, as they did.

Add your switch and keyring under Settings, Costs, Hardware & extras, then pick them on the Clickers page. A clicker from a shop order takes one switch per key and a keyring with its keychain: they are on the work label, come off the stock when the order is packed, and count in the order's true cost.

Credits

The add-on includes 100 AI credits a month for photo silhouettes and AI pictures (1 each) and 3D sculpts (5 each); names, Key pads and logos take none. The month's credits are used first and do not roll over; packs come on top and stay until used.

From your shop

With the WooCommerce plugin (with a live preview and a price per key) or the Shopify snippet, customers design their clicker themselves; the order is made, queued and its switches booked by itself.
